About us

Founded in 2012, the GSA Choir has grown to become one of Scotland’s largest and most ambitious choirs. From the outset, our aim has been to create an amateur chorus that performs to a standard far above that of the average non-auditioned group. Today, with more than 150 singers, we are proud of our reputation for outstanding musical discipline, and our commitment to new music.
Our repertoire is wide-ranging and adventurous, and the ensemble is an established champion of contemporary music having commissioned work from leading composers Jay Capperauld, Sir James MacMillan, Cecilia McDowall and Ailie Robertson, among many others. In 2023, we presented the groundbreaking Composeher world premiere concert, celebrating the voices of women composers, and in 2024 released the accompanying album.

The choir usually performs three concerts per year: two at Christmas and one in May. Alongside these, we regularly appear by invitation at special events, and collaborate with other artists on one-off projects.
Musical Director
The GSA Choir is conducted by Musical Director, Jamie Sansbury, who founded the ensemble in the firm belief that anyone can sing in a high-quality choir, regardless of musical training and their individual quality of voice. Jamie has been performing with choirs and choruses since he was 8 years old as a member of the National Youth Choir of Scotland (NYCoS) Edinburgh Area Choir, NYCoS National Boys Choir, NYCoS and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra Chorus.
