About us

The GSA Choir was formed in 2012, with the aim of  creating a non-auditioned chorus which would perform to a standard far above that of an average amateur group. This remains our primary objective, and our ensemble has gained a reputation for outstanding musical discipline as well as being committed to expanding the repertoire and musicianship of our singers. The choir now has over 140 singers.
The choir performs a wide-ranging repertoire and is an established champion of contemporary music having commissioned work from Ken Johnston, Shona Mackay, Jay Capperauld, Sir James MacMillan, Thomas LaVoy, Jane Stanley, Sarah Rimkus, Cecilia McDowall, Ailie Robertson, Pippa Murphy, Rebecca Rowe, Dee Isaacs and Harry Baines. In 2023 the choir gave the Composeher world premiere concert, and released the album in 2024.
Musical Director
The choir is conducted by Musical Director, Jamie Sansbury, who founded the choir in the firm belief that anyone can sing in a high quality ensemble, regardless of musical training and their individual quality of voice. Jamie has been performing with choirs and choruses since he was 8 years old as a member of the National Youth Choir of Scotland (NYCoS) Edinburgh Area Choir, NYCoS National Boys Choir, NYCoS and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra Chorus.
