The preview viewing of “Hold Fast, Stand Sure, I scream a revolution”, the lastest artwork by artist, Serena Korda, will be held on Thursday 7 April 2016 from 5:00 – 8:00pm in the Reid Gallery at The Glasgow School of Art.
Korda’s latest work being shown as part of the Glasgow International Festival 2016 and comprises a sonic sound ‘sculpture’ featuring a soundtrack recorded by the Glasgow School of Art Choir. The work is described as follows:
“Korda has produced a new sound sculpture that combines her interest in primitive impulses, invented tradition and our skewed relationship to nature. Taking inspiration from the politically radical history of Garnethill, Korda continues her investigation into ‘thin places’, anomalies in the landscape which were viewed in pre-Christian times as access points to the afterlife. Foraging expeditions on the Isle of Mull presented the deadly potential of some fungi as possible pathways to ‘thin places’. Mushrooms are imbued in our consciousness as grotesque, magic and poisonous. They attract and repulse in equal measure.”
The exhibition opens on Friday 8 April and runs until 27 April 2016 in the Reid Gallery, and then moves to An Tobar Gallery on the Isle of Mull for June and July 2016. More information on the run at The Glasgow School of Art can be found here.
