The Glasgow School of Art Choir is delighted to announce that Sir James MacMillan, CBE has agreed to compose a new choral work for the ensemble which will be premiered at the re-opening of the Mackintosh Building at The Glasgow School of Art in 2019.

James MacMillan is internationally recognised as one of the foremost composers of today and we are extremely honoured that he has accepted our commission to write for such an important event within the life of The Glasgow School of Art. The new piece will be premiered in the Mackintosh Building as part of the re-opening celebrations which will take place in 2019 once the building has been restored, following the devastating fire in May 2014.

Jamie Sansbury, Musical Director of the choir said of the commission: “We are hugely honoured that James MacMillan has agreed to write a new piece for this special occasion, it is a real privilege to be working with someone of his standing within the classical music world.”

Lyrics for the new commission have yet to be finalised, but further details will be announced in due course. The piece will be published by Boosey & Hawkes.
